Ghosts of the Past

By: Carolyn Broussard

[Verse 1]
Adjust my eyes as I look across the way
Where the child in me still longs to play.
Through the foliage we would stray
For generations. Now it’s gone away,
And the ghosts of the past call out to say.

[Chorus]
“Take me back where the rivers flow.
Where my hope and home can be regrown.
Where my home lies and my futures bright.
Take me, take me home tonight.
Where the ghosts of the past still live today.”

[Verse 2]
Progress came and we never knew
That the lands would cry and our water would stew.
They took my home, threw it away,
Lined their pockets with the price we’ve paid,
And the ghosts of the past call out to say.

[Chorus]
“Take me back where the rivers flow.
Where my hope and home can be regrown.
Where my home lies and my futures bright.
Take me, take me home tonight.
Where the ghosts of the past still live today.

Where my home lies and my futures bright.
Take me, take me home tonight.
Where the ghosts of the past still live today.”
