Half Pint of Whiskey

By: Carolyn Broussard

[Verse 1]
It took half a pint of whiskey
To bring me down
My mind’s still racin’
But me body’s come around

You tell me that you know
What I’m going through
But you don’t seem to want to change it
‘Cause it ain’t affecting you.

[Chorus]
I’m not sayin’ that I’m leavin’
But I don’t know what to do
I love you to the end
But you can’t seem to see things through
If you feel you’ll disappoint me.
Try another way
It’s only you I’ve wanted
I really want to stay

[V2]
It took half a pint of whiskey
To bring me down
And I’m still wonderin’
Why I keep hangin’ around

[Chorus]
I’m not sayin’ that I’m leavin’
But I don’t know what to do
I love you to the end
But you can’t seem to see things through

If you feel you’ll disappoint me.
Try another way
It’s only you I’ve wanted
I really want to stay

The Backstory

I'm not going to say it was our first fight, because it wasn't by far. However, it was definitely our first BIG fight. I was about a year into a relationship with a partner who'd been through a lot in the decade or so that spanned his previous relationship. That left a lot of unclaimed baggage for our family to sort though, one piece being setting and respecting boundaries. While my partner (husband as of 10/14/23) was out of town we ended up getting into a series of disagreements that turned to arguments that turned to shouting matches and harsh words over some interpersonal things I had laid clear boundaries on and was now being expected to handle. As the last phone conversation ended I collapsed into a sobbing mess knowing for sure we would never be through with this cycle. I grabbed a pint of Jameson Irish Whiskey and made my way to our bedroom. I have a habit of sleeping with my guitar when it's just me. As I nursed the bottle of whiskey I gently strummed at the strings in search of comfort. Contemplating the seemingly inevitable demise of a relationship I saw so much promise in
"Half Pint of Whiskey" is what came out.

Then came the anger...
Head to the backstory of "Mud & More"
for the rest.
